Getting Started

What is Keto Kit?

Keto Kit is a free iOS and Android app for tracking the ketogenic diet. One app covers food logging across a 500,000-item database, an intermittent fasting timer with five metabolic stages, 1,000+ keto recipes with full macros, an AI keto coach, a daily 0–100 Keto Score, and gamification with XP and quests.

What is the keto diet?

The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat way of eating that puts your body into ketosis. In ketosis, you burn fat for fuel instead of glucose. Most keto plans cap carbs under 20 to 50 grams a day, with 70 to 75% of calories from fat and 20 to 25% from protein. Healthy adults usually reach ketosis within 2 to 4 days at that carb level (Westman et al., 2007).

What can I eat on keto?

Eat: meat, poultry, fish, eggs, full-fat dairy, leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables, avocados, olive oil, nuts, seeds, and unsweetened drinks. Avoid: bread, pasta, rice, sugar, most fruit, beans, and starchy vegetables. The Restaurant Guide and Grocery Templates inside Keto Kit handle the day-to-day version of this.

How does food logging work?

Four ways. Free covers manual search across a 500,000-item food database and barcode scanning. Premium adds AI photo recognition (snap a photo, AI identifies the dish and estimates portion) and voice logging in plain language ("had two eggs and bacon"). Most entries take under five seconds.

Is Keto Kit the same as Lazy Keto?

Keto Kit is the successor to Lazy Keto. Same team, modern infrastructure, plus AI food recognition, gamification, and the Keto Score. If you used Lazy Keto, this is the upgraded version.

Food Logging

How fast can I lose weight on keto?

Expect 2 to 10 pounds in the first week (mostly water), then 1 to 2 pounds of fat per week after that, assuming a moderate calorie deficit. A 2013 meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials found that very-low-carb ketogenic diets produced more long-term weight loss than low-fat diets (Bueno et al., British Journal of Nutrition). Individual results vary.

How accurate is AI photo recognition?

AI photo recognition is a Premium feature. The AI identifies most common foods and estimates portions from a photo. It works best with clearly visible, single-dish meals. For packaged foods, the barcode scanner (free) returns the most accurate numbers because it pulls directly from the manufacturer's nutrition label.

Can I add custom foods?

Yes. Custom food entries are available on the free tier. Create entries with your own nutrition info, save them to your account, and log them again in one tap.

How does voice logging work?

Voice logging is a Premium feature. Speak naturally, like "Had two eggs and bacon for breakfast." The AI parses your words, matches the foods, estimates portions, and logs the entries. Free users can stick with manual search or barcode scanning, which take roughly 8 to 12 seconds per entry.

Fasting

Is Keto Kit really free?

Yes. The core app is free forever, no credit card required. Free includes manual food search, barcode scanning, the intermittent fasting timer with 5 metabolic stages, the daily 0–100 Keto Score, gamification, and the restaurant guide. Premium ($5.99/month or $49.99/year) adds AI Photo Scan, Voice Food Logging, the Keto AI Coach, full access to the recipe library, batch barcode scanning, AI meal planning, advanced analytics, and an ad-free experience.

What are the metabolic stages?

Fed (0 to 4 hours after eating), Transition (4 to 8 hours), Fat Burn (8 to 12 hours), Ketosis (12 to 18 hours), and Autophagy (18+ hours). Most users hit Fat Burn around the 8 to 12-hour mark. These are estimates from general research, not personal lab readings; individual results vary.

Are the metabolic stage times accurate?

The stages are based on general physiological research. They're a helpful guide, but they're estimates, not personal lab measurements. Everyone's metabolism is different. The stages are there to keep you motivated through a fast, not to replace lab work.

Keto Score & Tracking

How do I know if I'm in ketosis?

Watch for reduced hunger, mental clarity around day 4 to 7, a slight metallic or fruity breath, and steadier energy between meals. For a real number, use a blood ketone meter (0.5 to 3.0 mmol/L is nutritional ketosis, per Volek & Phinney's 2011 reference) or a breath ketone device. Keto Kit also estimates your ketosis likelihood from your logged macros and fasting state.

What macros does Keto Kit track?

Net carbs, total carbs, fat, protein, calories, fiber, and sugar. You can customize daily targets based on your weight, age, activity level, and goal.

Does Keto Kit sync across devices?

Yes. Create an account and your food logs, fasting history, recipes, and progress sync automatically across every device you use.

Recipes

How many recipes does Keto Kit have?

Over 1,000 recipes, each with full nutrition info, step-by-step instructions, and Cooking Mode for hands-free cooking. Free users get curated starter access. Premium opens the full library plus weekly new additions. Every recipe has verified macros and lands under 10g net carbs per serving.

What is Cooking Mode?

Cooking Mode is a hands-free recipe interface, included free. Prop your phone up and follow along: each step shows clearly with timers and large text. No more scrolling through a recipe page with messy hands.

Is It Keto?

Is lobster bisque keto?

Yes, when made traditionally with butter, heavy cream, and lobster, with no added flour or sugar. A typical 1-cup serving lands around 4 to 6g net carbs, mostly from the cream and a small amount from aromatics. Restaurant versions vary widely; some thicken with flour or add wine, so net carbs can climb to 10g+ per cup. The keto-friendly home version skips the flour roux and uses xanthan gum or no thickener at all.

Is gumbo keto?

Traditional gumbo uses a flour-based roux that adds 15 to 25g of carbs per cup, so it isn't keto. A keto version replaces the flour roux with butter, cream, or xanthan-gum thickening and skips the rice underneath. Done that way, a serving runs around 5 to 7g net carbs. Andouille sausage, chicken, shrimp, and the holy trinity (onion, celery, bell pepper) are all keto-friendly in normal portions.

Are pumpkin seeds keto?

Yes. Roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas) have about 2g net carbs per ounce (roughly a quarter cup), with 8g protein and 13g fat per serving. They fit easily into a 20g daily carb target. Watch for sugar-coated or honey-roasted versions, which can push net carbs to 10g+ per ounce.

Are jalapeños keto?

Yes. A whole jalapeño pepper has under 1g of net carbs. Pickled jalapeños are also keto-friendly as long as the brine isn't sweetened. Stuffed jalapeño poppers (cream cheese, bacon) are a classic keto snack at 1 to 2g net carbs each.

Is sriracha keto?

Sriracha contains sugar, so it isn't strictly keto, but at 1g net carbs per teaspoon most people use small enough amounts that it fits a lazy keto cap of 20g per day. For strict keto, use a sugar-free sriracha or homemade chili sauce with allulose or stevia.

Is shake and bake keto?

No. The traditional Shake 'N Bake coating is wheat flour and breadcrumbs, which puts a chicken or pork chop coating at 8 to 12g net carbs per serving. A keto version uses crushed pork rinds, almond flour, and parmesan, which gets the coating to under 2g net carbs and crisps up the same way.

Is bourbon chicken keto?

Traditional bourbon chicken is sweetened heavily with brown sugar and honey, so the standard restaurant or food-court version isn't keto. A keto bourbon chicken uses a sugar-free sweetener (allulose, monk fruit) in place of brown sugar, lands around 4 to 5g net carbs per serving, and tastes nearly identical.

Is corned beef hash keto?

Corned beef itself is keto (under 1g net carbs per 3 oz). The hash usually isn't, because it's served with potatoes. Substitute diced radishes, daikon, or jicama for the potatoes and the hash drops to about 4g net carbs per serving while keeping the same texture.

Is jicama keto?

Yes, in moderation. Jicama has about 5g net carbs per cup and a high fiber-to-carb ratio, so it's a useful potato or chip substitute. Sliced thin and baked, it makes keto-friendly fries or chips at roughly 7g net carbs per cup raw.

Is tzatziki keto?

Yes. Traditional tzatziki (Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, lemon, olive oil) lands at about 2g net carbs per 2-tablespoon serving. Use full-fat Greek yogurt, not low-fat. Skip versions made with sour cream and added sugar, which can double the carb count.

Is queso keto?

Yes, when it's a real cheese-based dip. Cheese, cream, butter, and peppers add up to 2 to 3g net carbs per quarter cup. Restaurant queso sometimes contains flour or starch as a thickener and pushes to 6 to 8g per serving, so check the ingredients or ask.

Is tartar sauce keto?

Yes, most tartar sauce is keto. Mayonnaise plus pickle relish runs about 1g net carbs per tablespoon, depending on whether the relish is sweetened. Sweet relish can push it to 3g+ per tablespoon, so check the label or use dill relish.

Are Quest cookies keto?

Quest protein cookies are low-carb and contain about 4g net carbs per cookie (after subtracting fiber and allulose). They fit a strict keto day in moderation. Watch portion size: two cookies puts you at 8g net carbs, which is a meaningful chunk of a 20g cap.

Is fish and chips keto?

Traditional fish and chips isn't keto. The beer-battered fish runs 30g+ net carbs per fillet, and the fries add another 40 to 50g. A keto version uses pork rind or almond flour breading on the fish (around 2g net carbs) and roasted radishes or jicama fries (about 5g net carbs) for the side.

Are buffalo wings keto?

Yes. Plain or naked wings with buffalo sauce (Frank's RedHot, butter) are essentially zero net carbs. Avoid breaded wings, which add 5 to 10g per serving, and check the sauce ingredients: some commercial buffalo sauces add sugar or corn syrup.

Is halloumi keto?

Yes. Halloumi is a firm, salty grilling cheese with about 1g net carbs per ounce and high protein. Pan-fried or grilled halloumi is a popular keto-friendly meatless option for salads, bowls, and as a chicken or steak substitute.

Is mascarpone keto?

Yes. Mascarpone is high-fat Italian cream cheese with about 1g net carbs per ounce. It works in keto desserts (mousse, cheesecake), pasta-style sauces over zucchini noodles, and as a swap for regular cream cheese.

Is tikka masala keto?

Chicken tikka masala can be keto if the sauce skips sugar and uses heavy cream instead of yogurt-based bases that include flour. A keto version typically lands at 6 to 8g net carbs per cup. Skip the rice underneath and use cauliflower rice or just eat the curry on its own.

Are pork rinds keto?

Yes. Pork rinds are zero net carbs and are mostly fat and protein, which makes them one of the cleanest keto snacks. Plain, BBQ, salt-and-vinegar, and most flavored varieties stay zero or 1g net carbs per ounce. They also work as a breadcrumb substitute crushed up.

Is BBQ sauce keto?

Most commercial BBQ sauces are sweetened with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup and run 6 to 12g net carbs per 2 tablespoons, so they aren't keto. Sugar-free BBQ sauces (G Hughes, Primal Kitchen) drop that to 1 to 2g net carbs per serving and taste nearly identical.

Are hemp hearts keto?

Yes. Hemp hearts have about 1g net carbs per 3-tablespoon serving, with 10g protein and 13g fat. They're one of the most macro-efficient keto seeds: high protein, high fat, almost no carbs. They work as a topping for salads, yogurt, and smoothies, or as a crumb replacement in keto baking.

Are mozzarella sticks keto?

Standard breaded mozzarella sticks aren't keto: the breading adds 4 to 6g net carbs per stick. A keto version uses crushed pork rinds, almond flour, and parmesan as the coating, which drops the count to under 1g net carbs per stick while keeping the crispy fry-up.

Is salsa keto?

Most fresh tomato-based salsas (pico de gallo, salsa roja, salsa verde) are keto in moderation, at 2 to 3g net carbs per 2 tablespoons. Avoid jarred salsas with added sugar or fruit (mango, peach), which can double or triple the carb count.

Is almond butter keto?

Yes, in moderation. Plain unsweetened almond butter has about 3g net carbs per 2-tablespoon serving. Sweetened versions (honey-roasted, maple) can run 6g+, so read the label. Almond butter is calorie-dense, so portion matters.

Is balsamic vinegar keto?

Yes, in small amounts. A tablespoon of balsamic vinegar has about 2 to 3g net carbs, which is fine for dressings and marinades. Avoid balsamic glaze and reductions, which concentrate the sugars and can hit 10g+ per tablespoon.
